I'm looking for a quick way to turn this off on all my xp pro machines... we are currently a novell network

I just dont know the key that I need to flip off or on to disable it..

thanks

Unless i misunderstand your post then this should do it.

1 Click Start then click on My Computer.
2 At the top of the My Computer window click on Tools then click on Folder Options.
3 In the Folder Options window click on the View tab.
4 Under Advanced Settings scroll down to the bottom and the last option will be “Use simple file sharing (Recommended)”. Uncheck this option.
5 Click Ok to apply settings and close this window.
6 The next time you check the properties of a folder you will see a Security tab and NTFS permissions if you are running a NTFS file system.

I'm acctually looking for the registry key thats associated with this setting so I can disable it on 250+ machines via login script...

That's a tricky one the only place i se any reference is here HKCU - Software - Microsoft - Windows - Shell No Roam - MUICache

I even used WinInstall to monitor the changes while i turned SFS of and it didn't seem to show it.

This is the only change that was made to my reg apparently and it doesn't look right to me.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Stats\{06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3}\iexplore]
"Blocked"=dword:000004f6
"Count"=dword:000006d6
"Time"=hex:d5,07,01,00,04,00,1b,00,09,00,0d,00,30,00,e7,02

Let me just say I appreciate all your help #1.. but I bit the bullet on this one..

It was making me mad so I had to figure it out for myself and I found the little sucker.

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\LSA\ForceGuest

its a hex value 1=SFS Enabled, 0=SFS Disabled

---

Now just to explain to you guys I used Regmon.exe from sysinternals.com that shows all registry "actions"

I got to the settings window.. turn on capture.. made the change a few times and then turned capture off.. after digging through 1000s of lines of registry gobble-d-gook I finally found it.

I hope you guys can use this one too
once again thanks for all your help!

Let me add that I love how the Simple File Sharing translates to ForceGuest. It DOES make sense now because if you try to do a C$ remote login to these workstations you cant! ..because they force you to use the guest account (typically disabled).

Obviously they couldnt call it Force Guest because you would have no idea what it was talking about.

THANK YOU MICROSOFT!
*cough*
