I've been having a problem with outlook express hanging with attachments

Looked thru the Microsoft Knowledge Base & it appears 315008 'may' solve my problem (willing to give anything a try at this stage)

I'm using xp pro, outlook express 6.0

Article says :

If You Connect by Modem
Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then press ENTER to start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
Locate the 000n value, where n represents a number that is assigned to the dial-up adapters, under the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\Net
Problem is - I don't have the directory 'class'

Any ideas?

Thanks
Helen

I am very surprised that you don't have 'Class' under your registry. Have you used the Find function to check (press Ctrl F in registry editor).
If you don't, you can create a new key under Services then again under Class to replicate the structure, then add the value in there.

Hi

Yes, I've done a 'find' on it - not there
I'm reluctant to create the structure as I'm not sure what's involved - the next section of the article says:

Search through each of the listed 000n values to find the DriverDesc key that pertains to the dial-up adapter or modem.
Double-click the IPMTU value, and then type 576 in the Value data box.

NOTE: If the key does not exist, create it. To do so, on the Edit menu, point to New, and then click String Value. Type IPMTU, and then press ENTER. Double-click the IPMTU value, type 576 in the Value data box, and then click OK.
Quit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

I wouldn't know what I was searching through if I had to create it

I must admit that my registry doesn't have that key either (Win2K) and having looked at the Microsoft article am a bit stumped about it.

Try searching for your dial up network connection name with a key called DriverDesc for the second part of the article.

There's a heap of them under HKEY_LOCALMACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet001\Control\Class

but this isn't where the article's pointing me
and there's no directory 'NET' there ...

To send large messages or attachments.

Many e-mail and news servers limit the size of the messages you can receive and send. Usually this limit is one megabyte (1 MB) per message, including all attached files.

With Outlook Express, you can send large messages or files to e-mail and news servers that have size limits, by breaking the messages into smaller ones. When the group of messages is received, the e-mail program combines them into one message.

On the Tools menu, click Accounts.
On either the Mail or News tab, click Properties.
On the Advanced tab, select the Break apart messages larger than x KB check box and then enter the maximum file size the server will allow.
