What causes a Cisco 1941 to have a registy change from 0x2102
to 0x2142? When this happens any changes are not saved and the router has to be shut down and then accessed through the password recovery process.

I have never seen it do that unless I specifically told it to. Just make sure that when you set it in the running-config you save it to the startup-config.

So verify it first
R2(config-if)#do sh ver | in register
Configuration register is 0x2142

since it's incorrect set it again and write mem

R2(config)#config-register 2102
R2(config)#do wr

Check it again

R2(config)#do sh ver | in register
Configuration register is 0x2102

hopefully that does it

Sorry if you do a "show version" you will see that your changes will not take affect until next reload

Configuration register is 0x2142 (will be 0x2102 at next reload)

So reload and then you should be good
