Hello,

I have a XP SP1 install which reboots automatically after a BSOD. To disable this I booted using BartPe and launched the registry editor, and created a key as described at:

However, the system rebooted again and when I checked the change had not been saved in the registry. I tried twice and this continues to happen.

How do I resolve this?

obviously... as you changed the REGISTRY of BartPE and not that of the installed OS...

Can you get into SAFEMODE? (F8 at startup) and change the switch there? or does it reboot in SAFEMODE aswell?

Shoot, you are correct.

No, I can't get into safe mode either. Is there a way to use BartPe to access the system registry?

As an Administrator highlight one of the two following Keys, it will only be available for these Keys.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
HKEY_USERS

These two articles in the RegEdit Help (of XP) are a good explanation of the process.

To load a hive into the registry
To unload a hive from the registry

BartPE has RegEdit so you should be able to load the broken XP's Hive and make your changes.
