The CTI software being used where I work requires access to the registry. At the moment we have all users with local admin rights.

Can I give them permission to write only to specific areas of the registry and, as such, remove the local admin from their profiles?

Many thanks Kevin Adkins, MCP(Paper)

This is my opinion. There is no right or wrong. Any information I give is correct to the best of my knowledge. No cute furry mammals were harmed in the posting of this forum.

Yes you can do that. However, the function is not included in REGEDIT.EXE but it is available in REGEDT32.EXE.

The problem can be determining which parts of the registry needs to be made writable. You can use RegMon from to see which parts of the registry access is failing on. It might take a few goes but it is eminently doable.

Many thanks for that one Mark,
apologies for the delayed reply.

Now it's really time to start poking around.
