Hi

I have a four page design which is currently in the format of two double page spreads. I have now been asked to break it down into four single pages and submit them as four individual PDF files.

My concern is with the design at the top and bottom and runs across both (sets) of pages and making sure that when they are printed they line up correctly.

I have to include a 6mm bleed, so i am thinking that I should also include registration marks to indicate the trim.

My question is: should I include any offset on the crop marks, where does my responsability end and the printers begin!

Any help would be most welcome

Thanks

..EB

You should be able to print to a postscript file with the spreads button unchecked. This should give you single pages. Then distill the file to pdf. Print to a larger sheet than your page size so that you can include registration marks and bleed. 9x12 for an 8.5x11 sheet for example. Enter the amount of bleed you need in the print dialog box. and you should get 4 9x12 sheets with registration marks and bleed that the printer can then place however they like. It should line up because you have given them registration marks to go by.

Thanks for your comments Ryan, my apologies for not replying sooner.

So whichever way I do this is it advisable to leave 0 offset on the registration marks, insisting that the printer cut correctly - or is it wise to allow a bit of scope for th eprinter to play with?

Thanks for any help,

..EB

The only thing the offset controls is the space between the cut marks. The cut stays the same no matter what the offset. We usually leave our offset set at 6. I think that is the default. It just leave a small amount of room in case the sheet moves a little, so you won't see part of the mark. Either way it should be left to the printer to make sure the cuts are correct. (as long as your layout is correct!) They should be able to position the page as to keep everything in alignment. I the art has registration marks you should be able to hold your printer accountable for misplaced art. And I'm sure they will show you a proof to cover their butts...
