regexp. Can you execute Regular expression searches from SQL? 1

regexp. Can you execute Regular expression searches from SQL Server 2000?

I've heard rumours of being able to do this:
a) by using existing sp_oa* ole automation stored procs,
b) creating an xp_* stored proc

Can anyone confirm or deny this.
Has anyone got a solution ready for donation?
