Hello Friends,

Now a days I'm getting a peculiar error message when I switch on my PC. I get a message in red color text saying "Please re-select your processor speed". I have to load default settings in CMOS everytime to boot my system. Can anyone tell me what could be the problem and how can i rectify it??

Thankx in advance

It is likely that your Cmos battery is going flat and loosing it's settings, hence the need to reset each time you start.
Cmos battery is usually a button type lithium of size
2032 and cost just a few dollars (situated on the motherboard) even if it turns out to be something else it is well worth changing it every couple of years to prevent hassels like this. Martin

Sometimes the motherboard can go bad after a few years also. It might be worth it to replace the battery and see what happens. Be careful not to damage the motherboard.

I think most motherboards are designed to be replaced after about 2 years.

Of course you could just try not to turn it off. The less you turn off a computer the longer it lasts usually. The battery is used every time you turn the computer off. If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

Thankx a lot for ur advice. But my system vendor says that there is some problem with the motherboard so i've to change it. Is it true?? Anyway I'll try replacing my system CMOS battery. Will get back to u if any problem arises.

Thankx once again for ur reply.
bye..!!

I only know this from personal experience:-

Just a small thing to check once you replace the battery that you don't bend the contacts. I had a user do his own change of battery, and when it did the same thing, i had to go onsite - I found he'd pulled the battery out and left the top connector pointing out at a 30 degree angle - no way was that going to touch the battery!
