Respected Sir,

Iam SanjeevNN. I want to implement Gift Certificate for a site. Here is a brief thing I came to know about Gift Certificates:

Gift Certificate is an on-line tool/concept adopted by many on-line sites nowadays. This concept provides the feature by means of which an user who is currently logged on that particular site, can send a Gift Certificate to any one of his friend, relatives and dear ones. The Gift Certificate is for a particular amount say 25$, 50$… etc. The name of the recipient, his address, and other details are mentioned so that there will be no problem in shipping the certificate to him. In addition we can send him some personal message to go along with the certificate. The shipping amount mentioned in the site, has to be accompanied with the actual cost of the certificate bought. The payment for buying the Gift Certificate can be paid either through Credit Card, Check, or some third party tool.

But before successfully implementing it, I have certain querries regarding it.

1. What is Gift Certificate. Is it for a specific object. eg. Gift Certificate for a book, shoes etc.

2. How do a gift certificate look like?

3. Suppose a user A who has logged on to the site offering to buy a Gift Certificate?. Suppose A purchases a Gift Certificate through the site for B. Is it necessary for the site to give a physical copy of this Gift Certificate to the recipient(in this case B).

4. How will the recipient(here B) encash/avail the Gift Certificate received by him and from where he will get it or purchase the item.

Is this a class project. (It sounds like one) If so read this link:

All you have to do is sell it like any other item, but tag a code to the customer, so they can use the code in the future for that amount of money.
