regain space in var without reboot

I copied a logfile from /var to /extra and then I removed the logfile. since the logfile was used by the apache I did not get the space back on var that I needed. Restarted apache but still nothing. Can't reboot. How do I get this back on track. Rgds LD

When you restart apache, be sure that all apache (eg httpd) processes are gone before you start apache again.
