Hi.

Is it possible to create a Reg or Bat file that will change the size of the swap file?

I'd like to be able to change the size of the virtual memory to a set amount (say 300 mb), without any user interaction, apart from clicking on the file to run it (as many of our users are not very computer literate)

Is this possible?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Did a google search, I haven't found it. Why the need to do this?

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

One particular (large) section of our users use laptops for their work. The laptops are set up by loading an image onto them. The swap file on this image is ridiculously small. I've asked for this to be changed, but the people who create the image wont do it (for what reason, I don’t know).

The small swap file, combined with some very poorly in-house written software, seems to cause the laptop to fall over. (I've increased the swap file size on some of the laptops, and this has reduced the incidence of the software falling over dramatically)

The users a) are for the most part technically incompetent, and b) don’t have mice to use, the touch pads are disabled, and they don’t have external mice, so it can be a long and arduous task to talk them through changing it themselves. (Remote control of the laptops isn't possible in this situation), so sending them a file they can easily run to increase the swap file size would be ideal, but it isn’t looking good...

I do not have a Windows 98 at hand here but if you go into Regedit, do you have a key named:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management] ?

If so, export it, and post it

That particular registry key does not seem to exist.

There is no Memory Management folder within session manager.

(although there is on our NT PC's)
