i am using mandrake linux 8.1 and I don't know how to change the monitor regresh rate. How do you do this? it's currently set too high for my monitor

Hi,

You can run Mandrake's gui tool XFdrake which sets up all the various XFree86 config stuff (i.e. 'XFdrake &' as root from a console / xterm window).

Otherwise, its down to editing the XF86Config or XF86Config-4 file. There will be a section in there like :

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "NECXV17"
HorizSync 31-65
VertRefresh 55-100
EndSection

You should make sure that the 'VertRefresh' range is valid for your monitor. There will also be a 'Screen' section that points to the monitor.

Hope this helps
