refresh an image on a page and not the whole page

Hello
I am trying to have an image on a page refresh, without the whole page reloaded.. I can already do that with a meta tag to refresh, but i dotn want to slow the page load, only refresh a small thumbnail image about 200x140

why do you want the image to refresh? Will it be changing or be the same image each time it refreshes. There may be an alternative way.

Do you want the image to refresh or to load an entirely different image? I don't see the benefit in refreshing an unchanged image...
