In Crystal Reports version 8.5 when I'm on the design screen, and I need to delete a few fields. In this case, the fields are the last few detail fields on the report. When I go back to the Report Expert, I get a confirmation message that the report format will be undone. Since most of the format is still correct, I'd like to retain it with spaces where the missing fields have been removed. Is there any way to retain the format? Or must all the fields be defined before formatting the report? I'm a newbie to Crystal Reports and we're testing it before purchase to see how it works.

No need to use the report expert to do this.

I use the report expert only at the very begining of the report design process, when I first pick my data source and fields for the report. After that I virtually NEVER use it, I do all of my subtotalling, sorting, etc, manually. I have better control over my report objects this way, and crystal doesn't get to make any formatting decisions for me.

In your case, from the design window, just select the objects in question, and hit the delete key. Report expert not needed.

Thanks, I appreciate your quick response. We're trying to learn this on the fly to evaluate the product and compare it to what we have now, so we not sure where to look.
