IBM 18Gb IDE hardrive was "damaged" during shipping (nasty noise and random programs popping up on screen). W2K install wizard reported "drive damaged beyond repair". A friend reformatted it on a Mac...now FDISK reports 100% OK. I have AOpen AX6B BX mb, Celeron CPU, W98 startup floppy and W98 CD.

But cannot get W98 to install. Error message: "no operating system installed"...tried booting from CD or floppy first--but same result. Thanks for help. [sig][/sig]

If it was making noise when first installed, then return it to the supplier for another and don't even mess with it. You're just asking for trouble if you try to use it, even if it seems ok now.

For future reference on formatting a hard drive:
Was it partitioned with a Primary DOS Partition and was this partition set active?
Did your friend use the command "format c:/s" to make the drive bootable? [sig][/sig]
