refiring a backup

Hey this is pawan this can u help me with this query ......
my backup fails a lot with 196 error code so i want to automate it by writing an script can u guide me how to write an script using shell scripting to refire a backup whenever it fails with an error code of 196 and i want to write scripts only for file system backups ?
