Hi friends,

I'm still struggling with some of my tables creating additional records, and I believe it is becasue I do not have ref integrity turned on for all relationships. . .

My reason for this is not simple to me - when I turn on the switch in the relationships window, it gives me an error message when I try to save. I know this is due to data in one table not matching up with data in the other table, but this is not explicitly easy to fix.

My question is this: I use a form to do most data entry, with lots of subforms. When the main record is created, and IF I DO have referential integrity enforced, as well as cascade updated records - will this automatically create associated records in the proper tables?

Should be an easy one . . .

TIA

Regards,

Are the subforms properly linked with the main form ?

Hope This Helps, PH.

Access can't create associated records. For that it would need to be telepathic. Referential integrity stops you adding incorrect things, and deletes associated records. Only you can create things.

Hi Mike,

You just partially answered my next posted question - many thanks for your wisdom. Can you tell me how to accomplish this? My other post is more explanatory - let me figure out how to hyperlink it, and I'll post that link here

Thanks for both of your help, in various ways. Thanks to BNPMike for the enlightenment about what Access will and will not do for me, and also to PHV for taking the time to post a link for me - that's the kind of Tek-Tips behavior that keeps me coming back. Stars all around.
