I have a report, with 1 grouping level, within that grouping's detail level, I'm doing a calculation with gives a number, and this is in a textbox.

however in the group footer, I try to do a sum of this text box over the group, but it doesn't seem to recognise the name of the text box, and prompts for it.

This only seems to be a problem with controls within the detail level of the group.

Any ideas?

You need to sum the calculation not the textbox.

if txtvalue is a textbox with controlsource of '=quantity * price' then you must do:

sum(quantity * price) NOT sum(txtValue)

If you can't do this in the report then you should move your calculation to the underlying query.

so is there no way of referencing controls between grouping levels?

the thing is, there is another control which calculates a MAX number that cannot be incorporated into the group footer.

I've sorted it now...

basically I did what lupins suggested, and moved part of the calculation into the query...
