referencing formulas within dictionary formula editor

I need away of being able to reference another formula from within a formula. This would be straight forward in Crystal but im working from within the Data Dictionary any ideas

for example i have a control formula that is deciding which formula i should display

if formula_a = "see next"
then formula_b
else formula_a

however when i do this Crystal doesnt seem to be able reference formula_a

any help would be great
