REELbackup is reporting several DLT iv tapes require cleaning.

I have double-checked this is not the drive, but the tape itself that needs cleaning.

How do we do this? Is there a machine that will clean DLT iv tapes, or do we just need to degauss them?

Thanks in advance.... Adam F

If the drives are dlt7000, initialise the tapes (after saving the data elsewhere first!) to 20GB mode (dlt4000 density, use density select button on front of drive), it takes several minutes. Then back to 35GB mode. Make sure that the DLT7000 is at V106 or higher first, otherwise it may be needed to be done again. This is a known problem. With DLT4000 units only a full degauss with the CORRECT degauser will work[$5000] or use a 7000 to format to 7000 mode, then place cart back in 4000, wait a long time..., finally initialise in 4000 mode. NEVER INIT IN 4000 MODE WITH A 7000 OR 8000 for a 4000 to use....!!!
