I have to keep our network available more than it currently is. We have a Watchguard III box that has a bad habit of hanging. We are working with Watchguard but don't seem to be getting nearer to resolving the issue.

I have been asked by management to supply a solution if the the router goes down out of hours. I would like to know how difficult it would be to install a seperate WAN link, with a seperate router and get that to act as the failover.

My problem is that if the main router fails, that is the default gateway for the servers, so how would I get the servers to route out via the new gateway when the primary dies?

Thanks

VRRP (Virtual Redundant Router) protocol can do this but it is typically a high end feature.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.
