Redundant 2948G-L3 Routers with HSRP

I am trying to connect two 2948G-L3 routers together in the following formation.

6509 <-----------> 6509
vlan 10

2950-12 <--------> 2950-12
vlan 10

2948G-L3 <------> 2948G-L3

2950-12 <--------> 2950-12
vlan 100

I do NOT control the 6509's but they are running HSRP and we have two connections off them (one off each).

I would like to run HSRP on the 2948G-L3 so that incoming traffic from the 6509's can access our network even if one of our routers would go down. I am setting the link between the 2950's to a higher stp cost so that traffic will not flow over it unless something happens. The problem I am running into is that when I try to configure a VLAN on both the uplink port to the 2950-12 and the cross connect port to the other 2948G-L3, I can't. Does anyone have any ideas how I should design this or make it work?

Thanks
