All,

We're porting a solution (CTI application) to multiple switches and are currently supporting

1. Avaya Definity 1 (CentreVu / Avaya CT)
2. Nortel Option 11 release 25 with Symposium 4.0/4.2 and CT-Connect 5.0/ Intel NetMerge 6.0
3. Cisco CallManager 3.3

We have programmed redundancy for out own server, and we also support CTI failover (if the CTI connection fails, our server can be configured to try a 2nd, 3rd, ..nth interface in order to establish a valid connection. With Cisco and CT connect this works fine, but for Symposium and Avaya it seem like the CTI server is a single point of failure. Is this the case?

Is it normally the case that the PBX and CTI interface is viewed as a single entity and redundancy must be provided accordingly? This seems a bit strange considering that PBXs are known the have a lot more stable hardware/software than any Intel box running Win2000/NT. I just cannot believe that redundancy is not supposed to be provide on both levels; the PBX and the CTI server.

Any thoughts/suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Thomas,

Symposium R5 has redundancy in the form of 'warm standby' - this means manual switch over if the primary server fails. that's as far as it goes.

you couls use the R% multiple server feature to connect more than one server to the same M1 but that would be expensive as two keycodes are needed.

R% is only starting Beta trialing and is due for release in March 2004. I think beta trialing is open for takers now and the software is free if you take the option but you would be running Beta for a number of months.
