Reducing VLDB Physial size

Our VLDB database is now <shudder> 9gb!! I have altered pruning to be 14 days instead of 28 and then run the dbdefrag utility on all of the database types. This has not made one bit of difference! Anyone got any ideas? I'm running Arcserve2000 on win2k.
