Our nightly SQL backup is broducing BAK and TRN files of 3.9GB.
However, under properties the file reads

Size 3.9 GB

Size on Disk 1.9GB

A major headache i am having is that we are exceeding out monthly managed backup size. Is there a way to reduce the size of the backup files from 3.9 to closer to 1.9GB?
Or would the managed backup (Not somthing i have stats for) read the file as 1.9GB, thus meaning no reduction is neccesary?

Thanks for any help

Reading your question
Your total DB size from properties is 3.9 but size on Disk is 1.9.

In your property tab it shows the total size of the DB. Thats inculded the data and transaction file. You should think about shrinking the tarnsaction file, or do a complete daily db backup. Also Look under properties goto DATA Files and see how much space is allocated and goto Trasnaction log do the smae. The total should add upto 3.9 GB. If your db deosnt have too much transaction set transaction logfile size to 100 or 200 MB and increment of 10%. This should resolve your issue. Unless I am not clear whatyou where asking.
Good luck
