We use illustrator for presentation graphics of architectural plans. Usually we import dxf files from CAD and then work on them in Illustrator (previously 8, now 10). The file sizes wind up being 5Mb plus. Is there any way in Illustrator to compress the file or effectively reduce the file size? Thanks for any help

Reducing file size

If you select a shape and go into the object>path>simplify dialogue you can seriously reduce the number of nodes used to build a shape without harming the integrity.... much. I find it helpful to go through iterations, cleaning up a few nodes at a time. The dialogue has a handy little node counter that will show you how many nodes you started with and how many you are gonna end up with. Also .ai and .pdf are much smaller than .eps. BEHOLD!
