Hello all,
I need te reduce a jfs file system size (/copy) and extend
the size of another one (/data). However i receive
the following message:

>chfs -a size=20000000 /copy
>chfs: 0506-908 Cannot reduce size of file system.

Thanks in advance.

There is only one way to reduce the size of a JSF file system. You must back-up the contents to tape, un-mount the FS, remove the FS (completely), rebuild the FS at the smaller size, mount it and restore the data. You will now have a quantity of free PP’s that you can allocate the your other FS, assuming they are in the same volume group!

Hi cekuoh

You can enhance the any file system size on fly but there is no direct aix/unix utility to reduce file system dynamically.

1) chfs -a size=+10000 /mnt (This will take 512 byte blocks) so calculate increase size accordingly)

2) To reduce fs size ...u can proceed with the procedure
as suggested by Linuaix forum user.

This is one of the drawbacks of unix.

But in AIX 5l 5.x one can reduce or enhance paging space dynamically...if u need any help on this ...I can help u...

Hello Larry and Sushveer,

Thanks for your input: i am not finished yet with this
pending matter but i was able to move forward and know
pretty wel how to close the call. I was able to expand the
size up to AIX 4.3 maximum.

So once again, thanks.
