Redo logs filling up!

I changed a number of tables to nologging and this has been confirmed in the 'DBA_ALL_TABLES' view.
Large updates to these tables have been run, doing both inserts & deletes. Although logging for these tables is off, Redo logs are still being filled up at a rapid rate. What is being written to the logs and can I reduce this any further without resorting to taking off logging in the session?

Hope you can help.

Cheers

Setting NOLOGGING only makes a difference when you are doing bulk loads (e.g., CTAS, SQLLDR, etc). Deletes, updates, etc still get logged.
