Can somone explain to me what a REDO file is in vm? When i look at the directory of one of my virtual images, i see a redo file. What the heck is that? It seems to be taking up a bunch of space which is why i am asking.

Thanks,
Eddie

Hi

Your Virtual Server (VMDK) has been placed into a halted\suspended state possible by backup software or something similar and the redo file is the running copy of the changes to your VMDK since being halted. You will find that this redo file is growing and it will also be affecting performance of your server. Best to reapply the redo file to your virtual server, this can be done by shutting it down within the OS of the virtual server and selecting Apply REDO when propmted. The REDO file will be written back to the original VMDK as will all your recent changes to the server. You will now finf the "REDO file has gone. Once completed you need to find what is causing the creation of the "REDO" files, in our case it was our misconfigured backup software which was affecting the VMDK's.
There are other ways to apply a "REDO" file, but I have just put the simply way.

Good luck
