We are currently in a mess as the server platform (Demon)hosting our website has been down for nearly 5 days (lost business etc).
In order to prevent this happening again we need some kind of contingency plan.
Demon also host our domain.
Can anyone tell me how we can get our website back up online in such circumstances.

I'd get another provider, for both services. If Demon's DNS system is available you could change it to point to your web site at another address, but it sounds like they are completely down. So, no real quick solution.

Move your DNS management to ZoneEdit.com and manage the DNS yourself. Migrate your website to Pair.com.

Or keep your website at both Pair and Demon and when Demon goes down, change the DNS pointer at ZoneEdit to send the traffic to Pair. When we're talking days of outage, an hour for a DNS change isn't as big a deal.

But as a professional, you should be looking for a solution you don't have to ever react to or be worried about fixing, so you should move completely off of Demon. I've been in your situation before, and ZoneEdit/Pair have been my favorite mix.
