We have an old flakey File server (W2K Srv) with 500Gb of vey important company critical data on it. We are migrating the entire folder structure and data to a more resilient server. The replacement server is already operational and hence has a different name. I'm thinking about all those word documents and other files that reference links by UNC. If I create a CNAME entry in DNS so that \\oldserver has the same IP as \\newserver will the unc links and embedded objects find the file on the new server?

Cheers
