Scenario.... serveral servers on the same switch comunicate with a DB server also on the same switch, lets say has an ip .1

A new DB server is introduced with an ip .2.

Requirement, get the existing servers to communicate with the new DB server, but using the old ip of .1, so no configs are changed on the servers. However the new DB server will still have it;s .2 ip address.

Was wondering if there is a way to force requests for .1 ip to the mac address of the new DB server which has a .2 ip address ?

cheers.[bigsmile]

how would the traffic ultimately get to the new DB server if it doesn't have the correct IP address?? you can create a static ARP entry, but in the end it won't work. a better way to do this would be to use DNS and not hard code IP addresses in applications. this way all you need to do is go into DNS and change the A record and point it to the new box. if this is a server 2008 environment you may need to fiddle with SPN's to make it work.
