I setup a group policy to redirect the desktop and my documents. I have decided to not redirect the desktop anymore, it is causing some problems. So, I took out that group policy. However, the settings have remained. I have forced the update and have waited for days. What do I need to do to return the desktop to normal again?

You have to leave the policy in place and disable it. You can't just remove the policy.

If you have already deleted the policy then you can force the removal from the desktops by modifying the registry.

There are two places to edit:
[red]
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\Desktop

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\Desktop[/red]

Additionally you could locate the actual policy and delete the tattooing. Policies are stored in 4 locations.[blue]

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies [/blue]

That is correct, I have disabled that particular setting in the GPO. Why have the settings not reverted themselved on the pcs? How do I change those registry settings on all pcs? Thanks for the help!

Edit the policy and re-enable it. Then click the Settings tab. You will find an option there for policy removal. One option is to redirect the folder back to the local user profile when the policy is removed.
