I have added a line simular to the following;

Redirect Premanent /2005test
This doesn't work, however if I change /2005test to /test it works fine.

Does anyone have an explanation?

I am not sure, but in that example 'Premanent' should be 'Permanent'. If you just copied/pasted it from the original source apache may be confused as to what the redirect actually is.

Did you just try redirecting a numerical subdirectory by itself?

danomac, thanks for the reply.

Sorry about my typo,(Premanent)), spelt it correctly in httpd.conf.

Looks like appache doens't like directory names starting with numbers, tried /test2005 and /test, and both worked fine. I then tried /2005 and /2005test and both failed.

So I've just started using /test2005.

All good.
