Redirect public address to private IP 2

We have a webserver on the DMZ of our firewall. It has a public IP of 64.x.x.x and a private IP of 10.x.x.x The public can only be accessed by the public, and private by private. How can I redirect our internal clients to the private address when they type or click on the link for the public address? i.e. the website has a link for my webapps on the server, but it has the public link which won't work for internal traffic.

I should also include that neither address have an entry in public or private DNS servers.

Make a HOSTS file entry for your webservr, using the private IP address.

I tried that, and it didn't work. I think the problem with that is there is no 'host' per say, both are just IP addresses.

Set it up in internet explorer - if u have a proxy server, im not sure of your network config, but there is a setting in the connections tab- lan setting to bypass proxy server for local ip addresses... I think this is what your after ?? use group policies to push out the change to all clients...

or you could possibly do some DNATing , like all connections to ip 10.x.x.x on port 80 going to 64.x.x.x specific address re-route to 10.x.x.x specific address...

depends where the router/firewall is placed of course.. just a suggestion though.

We have a PIX firewall with no proxy, so I'm sure your second answer may work, however I have no idea how to set that up.

Ok, I found how to do it, using the 'alias' command. Here is the instructions in case anybody else wants it. Looks pretty simple.
