hello

I have serious problems getting my linux-router to access the internet,
I have a working lan with my windows-clients and a working samba-server.
but I just can't get my Linux box to establish a dsl-connection.
I have installed redhat 7.3.
when I try to start my connection with *** pppd pty "/usr/sbin/pppoe -I eth0" ***
the command is executed without any errors but ifconfig does not show me any device called *** ppp0 ***.
I send the corresponding part of /var/log/messages along with this post, and I would be most thankful for any hints.

If you have a dsl connection, why are you using ppp. All you need is eth0. ppp is for dial-up connections.

well, eth0 is connected to my dsl-modem,
and with *** pppd pty "/usr/sbin/pppoe -I eth0" ***
i tell linux to establish a connection with my dsl-modem via eth0, right?
thats at least how I did it wit rh7.1

thanx for trying to help, though

my best advice is use the control panel that comes w/ redhat..whatever window manager you're running either kde or gnome should have a 'control panel' so you can have a gui to make configuration files and the like..that would be the quickest and easiest thing to do.
