Hello dear Gurus,

Sorry, the questions:
1 Is it possible?
2 Lynux and DBC:
- How to setup? Is there a website which shows how?
- Communication with WinNT Server (PDC) possible? How?
3 Linux and WINS Server:
- How do I setup on Lynux? (Maybe a link could be useful as well)
- Can it synchronise with WinNT Server WINS?
4 Linux and DHCP:
- How do I setup?
5 Linux and Samba:
- Does Samba enable printing form NT workstations?
- Can NT workstations see

1) Anything is possible ;^)

2) According to the Samba web page (<A HREF=" TARGET="_new"> Samba provides quite a lot of the functionality of a PDC already. Not knowing much about NT, I guess BDC functionality may be in the same state. As for notes on setting up, check the Samba page for more details.

3) Not a clue on WINS - last I heard, though, it was something that Microsoft wanted to slowly bury under a large rock. Also, I've not seen any mention of this running under Linux... (Hmmm... unless it's a Samba thing I've never bothered looking at...) Maybe time to move to DNS/DHCP?

4) Ah - looks like you're looking at DHCP already ;^) Bit of a detailed subject - can't really say "just do this and you're up and running". Take a look at <A HREF=" TARGET="_new"> , <A HREF=" TARGET="_new"> , and <A HREF=" TARGET="_new"> for some detailed info.

5) Samba does enable printing from NT workstations. Works both ways - the NT boxes can print to shared Linux printers, and Linux can print to shared NT printers. Last part of your question was cut off, but if it was "Can NT workstations see shared Linux drives?", the answer is yes :)

Hope this helps.

Andy, thank you very much! I've just checked out the links you mentioned and feel a bit better now...
I think what MS named WINS is nothing else than a NetBIOS nameserver. Hmmm - I keep looking. Once again, thank you much!
The question your asking above is what I done already. It is all possible. Samba will do PDC, WINS, file and print server. Get the DHCP latest release and tell it the name of the machine etc... read the leases.conf file with it and it explains everything clearly, and there you go, with samba running and dhcp you have all that you have asked for.
Simon Jones
sijones_uk@yahoo.com
<a href= Allandale Youth Works
God am good!!! and good lookin :)
