please can someone tell me if any email distribution software is included with redhat. if so which one is best to use

Hi,

I assume you mean a MTA (Mail Transfer Agent), i.e. a smtp server. Well sendmail ( is included in the standard release. Postfix ( can be obtained from the powertools CD or ftp at --> ftp://ftp.mirror.ac.uk/sites/ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/7.1/en/powertools/i386/RedHat/RPMS/postfix-20010202-4.i386.rpm

The other main smtp server, qmail ( pretty much needs to be compiled from source due to licensing conditions - see --> . Basically, you download the source rpm -->
and do

rpm --rebuild qmail-1.03-102memphis.src.rpm
then
rpm -Uvh /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386/qmail-1.03-102memphis.i386.rpm

All of the above are SMTP servers. The most difficult to configure is sendmail although that is also the most widely used.

Regards
