I'm completely new to Linux stuff.

I had installed Redhat 9.0 on my Sony VAIO laptop(PCG-FX370K).

This laptop is currently a dual-system (windows 2000 professional & Redhat 9.0 ).

Somehow when i log into XWindows the screen resolution
always stays on 800 x 600.

How can i get the full screen on my laptop ?

===============================================
When i run
From Failsafe:

ROOT> kudz --probe --bus=DDC

class: VIDEO
bus: DDC
detached: 0
driver: unkown
desc: "Intel Corportation i815M Graphics Controller"
mem: 1024

=======================================================
When i checked under display settings in Xwindows this
is what it shows up

Monitor Type: Unkown Monitor
Horizontal refresh: 31.5-37.9
vertical 50.0-70.0

Video card

Video card Type: Intel 815
Memory size: 16M
Driver: i810

But attention: Have ctrl-alt-backspace available if testing, and: wrong settings may cause damage.

In KDE in the control-menu/ system-control, there is a tool (allmost on the top) which is from the late 60's I guess.

Make a backup before using it.

xf86config, xf86cfg and xf86config-v3 are three tools - waiting for us to use them - but which?

Stefanwager,

Thanks for the reply, one thing:

So do you want me to copy and paste your code on to my
XF86Config file.

I couldn't get this :

I have RH 9 on SONY VAIO PCG-F360 and averythin works fine

Bingooooooooooooo

It worked like MAGIC.

Thanks NGK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i did the same
changes as what you have mentioned to the monitor
and it worked.

Thanks Stefanwagner as well

Perhaps I will try the NGK-style too - mine is so messi (partly generated from a configure-program).

Ctrl-Alt-Backspace is the Key-combination, to stop the X11-server in emergency: no respond at all, or buggy screensettings.
