What I'm trying to do is have my Win2k provide and internet connection to my RedHat 8 box, and share resources (ie. so i can listen to mp3s from my win2k box on my redhat one (although thats not important, the internet connection is)). Now unfortunately I have D-Links DHN-920 network in a box to work with. There are no pre-installed drivers in RedHat for this network adaptor and I haven't been able to find any anywhere else. This is going to be a huge headache if its even possible, and your help is greatly appreceated.

Thanks in advance.

For your nic, most drivers have a Linux folder now with the appropriate drivers for Linux. If not, you should get another nic.

As for the Internet connection, run RRAS (Routing and Remote access) on the Win2K server and select Internet sharing.

If you're running Win2K Pro, start the Internet Connection Sharing service.

My current win2k nic is a Realtek RTL8029.

Now if i were to buy a different one would there be any problems? I highly doubt it but then again i can't say I know this for sure so...

Plus what would I use to connect the two? I have an RJ-45 jack that connects to the hub for our lan. Would I use a coaxal (maybe bnc?) cable to connect the two nics?

Should I update to a new nic? Buy the same card? And what kind of cabling will I need to connect the two? Not the RJ-45, is it the 10BaseT Cat5 cabling? Thanks again.

RH should see the Realtk 8029 chipset. It sees mine.

To connect your Linux system to Win2000, plug both systems into your hub.

Your Win2K should have 1 NIC for local and 1 for Internet, either a modem or NIC attached to some broadband device.
