Is anyone running RedHat 8 with a Turtle Beach Sound Card? I am having trouble getting it to recognize my card ....... Can anyone Recommend a sound card that will work with linux?

Hello Frank,

I too have a Turtle Beach sound card (Montego A3D) that doesn't work with linux (I happen to be using RH8.0 as well).

Mine is based on the Aureal Vortex chipset (8820 from memory). Unfortunately, there appears to be little available to get this to work as before Aureal went out of business (doh!) they didn't realease any chipset info to allow people to develop drivers for the card (double doh!).

I'm hoping that someone can prove me wrong here because it's a damn fine sounding card (compared to my onboard SB thing anyway) and I'd really like to have audio capability in linux.

As for what kind of card, I'm not sure - try having a look on one of the help sites for a hardware compatibility list - I think there's even info like that at redhat.com - then make a descision from there.

WMG,

Thanks for the response! I dont know where I have been, unaware that Aureal went under... :-( Figures I find that out after I install Red Hat 8... lol It looks that the best option at this point is to just buy another card, and thats what I am in the process of doing right now, researching what other people are having luck with...

Good luck!! Let me know if you figure anything oout..

Thanks Again!

I have a Soundblaster Live Digital and a Soundblaster Live 5.1 and they both work well for me.

The Digital (I think thats the model?) works great in both analog and digital mode but the 5.1 which has a combined digital/analog port I can only get to run in analog mode.

I mostly use the Digital with the digital output and it works well for what I need it for.

Hope this helps. [smurf]

I am just looking to listen to MP3's on my Linux box, would either analog or digital make any difference?

No,

I only know this because I use the digital out on mine. The only reason I metioned it is incase you wanted the digital out - AFAIK the dual analog/digital port only work in analog mode.

Doesn't mean a thing if you don't use it.

Hope this helps. [smurf]
