Hi all

I am trying to install redhat 7.3 in my server which has a built in two adaptic AIC-7896 host adapter, 128 mb ram, dual CPU PII
scsi HD and scsi cdrom, I start my server with the cdrom in, it boots fine from the cd, I press enter to start installation then it starts loading the driver for the scsi host adapter(aic-7896), it took about 25 min's loading it then I select my language then I configure my NIC (ip adrress and netmask) then it freezes at blue screen and stays for ever I waited more than 45 min's but movement
I don't know whats wrong I checked the compatibility in redhat site everything is fine, I even downloaded the driver (adaptec) and installed it manually but still same problem

Does anyone of you knows what is the problem and how can I solve it I would realy appreciate it

Thanks

You might want to check if there is a special boot image/commandline switch for the dual processor. In the older versions it was not the default.

I have RH 7.1 installed on a dual P2 machine. It detected the 2 CPUs during the installation automatically. After you get it working, you can check the /proc/cpuinfo file to see if both CPU's are installed.

Try entering the RH setup in expert mode. It tells you how to do it after you boot from the CD, but I think you just type 'expert' at the prompt. You can manually load the SCSI drivers you downloaded here.

If you want to check Linux will work with 2 Processor.
You can use this command :
# mpstat
You can see each processor utilization.
I installed scsi card 66 MHZ for Compaq ML 580.
I used RedHat Linux 6.2.
The scsi card connected to Tape Library ML 5026.
I got the problem after I tried to run the Tape Library.
After that I found the problem from scsi driver for linux.
You can check from /etc/modules .conf and use this command # lsmod
Good Luck
