redhat 7.2 mod_ssl problems

hello people, .. im trying to define a virtualhost with ssl support, but when adding the directive SSlEngine on inside of <virtualhost> apache fails start up, ... mod_ssl rpm is installed, .. open-ssl is installed too, .... what could this possibly be ??
