RedHat 7.2 "issues"...

Hi,

Just installed RedHat 7.2 on my Athlon board and everything works fine, as long as I don't use a mouse attached to a cheap (IOGear) KVM switch. The funny thing is that I could run Mandrake 8.1/8.2 with no issues. The mouse is a Logitech Wheel Mouse, set up as a 3-button PS/2 mouse. Keyboard and Video work fine using the KVM with the RedHat install. When I use the mouse it just punts the cursor to the top of the screen and I can't move it up and down but I CAN move the cursor left and right (albeit erratically)...

Any hints on how to get my mouse to work?

Also, I'd like to know what people think about their favorite media players. Specifically movie players for MPG, AVI and even ASF? So far I've played with Xine and it works well for most formats, and found that KDE's player is bad. Any other options I should try out?

Thanks much.

I was getting a similar problem with my Belkin KVM and RH 7.2.

Here are a couple of things that work for me:

If I kvm switch away to another machine and come back, but don't touch the mouse, and immediately CTRL-ALT-F1 and then immediately ALT-F7 to return to X, the mouse works perfectly.

If I stay on a single machine, the mouse never gives me a problem. It's only when I kvm switch away and come back that it drives me nuts.

I found this on a google search last night, but have not tried it:

"I think the solution was to configure the mouse as generic as possible. You will not be able to use the wheel on the Linux boxes, but you should be able to get it to work. Try the Microsoft two button mouse drivers first."

Hopefully it helps. I'll try the last solution next when I am at the units concerned.

Thanks,

I tried to switch to another session and use the mouse configuration, but to no avail. I ended up giving up and installing Mandrake again just to have the immediate joy of a working system.

Once I get another machine (every household should have at least five!), I'll work on another distro like Red Hat. J.R. Juiliano
