RedHat 7.1 w/ Dell Inspiron 400

Hi All:

I am trying to learn Linux because...well because I want to I guess. Anyway I am a beginner and I am having a problem. When I load Linux on my laptop everything works fine undocked. However, when I am in the docking station and I try to run startx my screen goes black. I have a viewsonic A75f monitor which is under the supported monitors when I run Xconfigurator. Whether I try to install it manually or automatically my screen goes black when I test or run startx. Any suggestions? TIA!!
