I am trying to install redhat 7.1 onto a 2gb harddrive with a 750mb swap. I am placing it on a 2nd harddisc in my system. However, every time i try to install it keeps saying that I do not have enough space. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you're simply out of disc space.
Why would you need such a big swap area?
Try setting the swap-partition slightly above your amount of RAM.

Make sure you only install what you really need. Perhaps you've choosen to install all packages? /Sören

Hi,

The basic space requirements are given in the redhat install guide (

One question that arises - do your really need 750mb of swap ? That would leave only 1250mb for linux - you can get away with that but it could be a bit tight depending on what you want to do. Swap would normally by double the size of physical ram.

I'd suggest trying the 'custom' install....

Hi mcphistop,

I suggest that you re-install your Linux OS and spend some time reading the installation guide as it contains a lot of information that you should know and response to during the installation.

You might want to use Mandrake Linux 8.1 instead as it is MUCH more user-friendly and you can use a "Recommended" installation option which will guide you throughout the installation with the options and will also auto-allocate the disk for "/", "/swap" and "/home".

Mandrake Linux can be found at
