I have a Redhat 6.2 server that locked up earlier...I checked the syslog and this is what I found just before the lock up:

apmd [397] : system suspend

Any ideas what caused this? Kernel is 2.2.14..

First if you dont need it turn it off. (/etc/rc.d/rc?.d) We have hundreds of rh62 servers with no need of apmd to run, or http or gpm or xfs or the other load of stuff that is not needed but must be installed for who knows what reason.

The standard of "man apmd" will help you decide. If you really need it check for updates and apply.

As far as I know none of those things need to be installed, it's just that they are if you don't take the time to do a custom install.
