I have a Dell server that has RH Enterprise5.0 installed and I'm attempting to install oracle10g server, but it just does not want to install. When I kick off runInstaller as the oracle user it just does nothing what so ever. How can I get 10G installed?

As a test I then installed 11G with no issues what so ever!

Nyck,

First of all, have you confirmed that your o/s "flavor" is on the Oracle 10g supported-platforms list? (See MetaLink.oracle.com).

Next, are you using a workstation that has access to Exceed? If so, then you assign, at the o/s prompt, a system logical as follows:
Code:
% DISPLAY=<workstation name>:0.0
% export DISPLAY
Once you have confirmed the above, you should be able to issue the "runInstaller" command to initiate installation.

Let us know your findings.

According to Metalink note 419646.1, the Oracle 10g release 2 installation requires you to invoke the installer with the following parameter

Code:
./runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs

That's because the 10g installation is expecting an earlier version of Red Hat. Installing on version 5.0 will cause the installer to fail its prerequisite checks and you have to force it to ignore the failure.

I got it working!

I managed not to install one of the many pre-req rpm's, once I discovered this I then installed it and 10G got installed fine.
