I installed Red Hat 8.0 a few days ago. Everything seems to be working fine except for the Network Notification Tool. It continually turns to a grey question mark icon with tool tip "Error connecting to RHN" and gives me the error: "Network Error -3: Temporary failure in name resolution." When I click "OK," it goes to the blue check with tool tip "Waiting before checkin..." for about three seconds before turning back to the question mark. I'd like it to stop, if possible. Any suggestions?

Right click on the icon, choose Configuration, select Forward on the dialog box, then select "Remove From Panel".

This will work, though your error seems to imply other issues of connectivity. Are you connected to the internet when this error occurs?

Well, that'll get rid of the icon, but I'd rather know what's wrong and get it to work properly instead of just ignoring it.

Yes, I'm connected to the Internet when I get the error.

The Notification Tool has worked a single time (showed the flashing red exclamation mark to signify updates) since I made the first post. I don't know what caused it to work, but I remember I was checking out differences between Gnome and KDE that day, so I was switching between them. Could it have something to do with the fact that I'm not normally connected to the Internet when I start Gnome or KDE, but I would have been that one time, since I stayed connected while switching? I haven't been able to replicate the behavior since that one time, and it's back to the question mark now.

I have had problems with the KDE update tool - it locks up.

I loggied in with a gnome desktop, and it worked perfectly.
