I know little about networking within Linux, so any help with what commands to look at would be appreciated. I do have some experience with AIX and know those are similar.

Our Red Hat 9 FTP server within that last week has been timing out session requests from outside vendors. The connection will eventually connect, but the timeout has to be increased to 90 seconds in order for it to connect. Once the connection is established, it seems to work fine.

Any ideas? I can give you hardware or setup specs if that would help, but not sure what you need so let me know.

Thank you.

Timeouts to FTP exist because:

1) Bad network
2) Bad hardware
3) DNS resolution required AND is flawed
4) Competing service on the required server ports

Have you checked the /var/log/ area for hints from the system logs?
